Christmas Post 12/12

Posted by Matt on December 25, 2010

Almost free.

Christmas today was quiet, which is good. The busier days tend to end being more stressful and annoying than they’re worth. Plus, I’ve been working a lot lately, so its good to have at least one day of nothing (really).

Hope you enjoyed this time of great giving. I’m all gived out at this point – so don’t expect another post from me until mid-January.

Fuck you guys. And I mean that in the nicest way possible.

Christmas Post 9/12

Posted by Matt on December 22, 2010

Today’s post is special, because I found an old blog post that tells me what I got for Christmas in 2007, solving the mystery that has been bothering me for the past few days.

Okay, so it wasn’t actually bothering me at all. Even so, it’s good to know I have a record of these things, somewhere. So I won’t forget anything I’ve done. Thank god for the Internet age, where everything is remembered forever and forever.

Oh crap.

Christmas Post 7/12

Posted by Matt on December 21, 2010

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but the holiday season is a double-edged sword for me at work. On one hand, I don’t have to listen to the shitty store radio music that plays incessantly for an entire month. On the other hand, there is a new line-up of shitty store radio music that plays incessantly instead. And there’s less of it, so I hear the same songs (and different versions of the same songs!) over and over again all day, every day. There must be almost half a dozen versions of every Christmas classic, and I have listen to most, if not ALL, of those versions in one day, and then again the next day, and again and again. It’s maddening.

I mean, there’s gotta be more pleasant holiday music than just Jingle Bells, Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, I Saw Mommy Kissin’ Santa Claus, and Silent Night, is there? Today I heard a dumb country Christmas song I never heard before, but that’s a rare experience. I don’t even hear the Beach Boys’ Christmas songs on there anymore, and they were basically my few break points from the monotony. It’s maddening.

Also, Jingle Bells, It’s Cold Outside, and Let It Snow are not really Christmas songs, just being about winter in general. So why do we only hear them during this time? Is it because outside December, no one wants to be reminded that it’s winter?

Christmas Post 5/12

A list of movies that take place during Christmas that aren’t necessarily considered Christmas movies:

Die Hard
Gremlins
Black Christmas (this one is iffy, but who would consider it a Christmas movie? Anyways, still has one of the creepiest endings I’ve ever seen!)
Batman Returns
The Ice Harvest

Conclusion: most movies that take place during Christmas but aren’t necessarily Christmas movies try their damnedest to be either scary or depressing or Die Hard. Christmas is prime material for subversion.

Yes, I am desperate for content.

Example Christmas gifts, 2005-2010:

2005: The Simpsons Season 8, a bag of peanuts

2006: The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy of Four Edition, aftershave I never used

2007: Drawing a blank here…

2008: That Lucky Old Sun by Brian Wilson, SD Card Readers

2009: Staple remover, travel baggage (w/ ugly towel)

2010: ???

(Really, this is more of a test for my memory than anything else)

Now I know: I must find out what the hell I got for Christmas in 2007. It’s really bothering me.
